Utah Cheese Awards announces 2018 call-for-entries information and show judges.
MAY 1, 2018 – SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – The Utah Cheese Awards, a cheese-plate specialty food competition, has announced the details for its annual contest. Commercially licensed producers of Utah-made cheese, charcuterie, bread, sauces, honey, fruit, and chocolate may submit samples beginning August 17 with a deadline of 6:00 p.m. August 24, 2018.
Cheese will be judged in 14 categories, while 9 other specialty food categories will also be ranked. Additionally, amateurs or cheesemakers working, from home will also be able to submit their product.
Founder, Steve Jerman has lined up four volunteer judges for the competition, all with varied experience and knowledge of fine dining and local food.
Jerman is most excited about Ted Scheffler, arguably Utah’s most well-known food personality. Ted spent decades writing a weekly column about the Utah restaurant scene, as well as being involved in broadcasting dining news. Currently is he is national food and travel journalist.
Pastry chef and baker, Tosha Rustad of Current Fish and Oyster (Salt Lake magazine’s 2017 dining award winner) was invited back after the show was impressed by her thoughtful and meticulous judging of the inaugural Utah Cheese Awards competition.
They will be joined by Alex Springer who has written about food for SLUG Magazine and is currently the dining columnist for Salt Lake’s City Weekly and it’s sister publication, Devour, a local foodie publication, which helped sponsor the 2017 show.
Additional judges and alternates to be announced at a later date.
Interested producers can submit up to three samples for free. Additional submissions are $25 each. Details and entry forms are available on the show’s website, UtahCheese.info. The show anticipates 50 to 100 entries from 15 to 20 producers.
Winning products and their makers will be announced this coming fall.
