MAY 18, 2017, SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH — The newly formed Utah Cheese Awards has released information on how Utah-based cheesemakers and specialty food makers can enter it’s 2017 inaugural competition.

All commercial cheesemakers producing within the state are invited to submit. Complimenting foods including cured and smoked meats, sauces, honey, fruit, bread and chocolate will also be accepted and judged. The categories for cheese are; hard, soft, cheddar, cheese containing adjuncts, curd, sheep or goat milk cheese and cheese made by those producing over 100,000 pounds a year.

Each qualifying maker is allowed to enter up to three products for free. Additional submissions are $25.00 each. A panel of celebrity, volunteer judges will award points which will be compiled to determine a first, second and third place winner in each category. A best of show trophy will be awarded in cheese and non-cheese divisions.

Entries will be accepted August 19 to 22 at Caputo’s Market in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah (Caputo’s is acting at the festival’s 2017 logistical sponsor.) The final deadline is Tuesday August 22 at 5:00 p.m. In addition to entries shipped or delivered to Caputo’s, the Utah Cheese Awards will be gathering entries in Cache Valley as well as at the Salt Lake Downtown Farmers Market.

Award winners will be announced at a public event and market, tentatively scheduled for October 2017 in Salt Lake City. The Utah Cheese Awards was formed by local, veteran commercial artist, Steve Jerman after being inspired by a summer cheese farmstead internship.
